The 2 things you must know about the online space

We hear a lot and see a lot about marketing our business online.

There can be a lot of overwhelm and conflicting opinions, and this often leaves business owners feeling stuck and unable to build consistent marketing strategies.

Within the opinions of Content Queen, there are TWO core things you must know about being in the online space. If you market with these TWO things in mind, there is no doubt whatever you will do, will work!

No more overwhelm, no more inconsistency or feeling stuck! Let’s explore it now!

It’s time to step it up and stay in your lane online!

These 2 main things you need to know will see your goals be reached and see you attract and align with your target audience! So, what are they?

1. Step it up and share what you want to be known for! This is all about becoming a thought leader and embodying exactly the passions and opinions you want to be known for. If you need some help understanding what this could be for you, we have an exercise you can do:

Write down 3-4 things you want to be known for. Start generating core pieces of content and START talking. Have a weekly piece of content dedicated to this thought leadership. You can then put it in your newsletter or even create a long-form piece of content (blog, video, podcast) around it. Step up and be seen for what you know!

2. Stay in your lane. You need to block out the irrelevant noise and switch off socials when you feel you need to. Don’t spend your time comparing yourself to other businesses, instead, focus on doing what feels right for your business and telling your story to attract that target audience.

Comparison and how to overcome it

Admiring and congratulating what other businesses are doing can be one thing but sometimes we can find ourselves tracking over to comparison between our own brands and what others are doing. This can add unnecessary pressure that just makes everything in content, marketing, showing up and more that much harder.

So, if we can avoid comparing ourselves to others it won’t only allow us to focus, but also thrive in what we do! But the big question is HOW do we stop comparing ourselves to others?

A really important tip is that social media isn’t always what it seems, it is just one big highlight reel of people’s lives. It’s super essential to remember to not compare where we are at privately with where someone is at publicly - you don’t know what’s going on behind the phone screen.

Here is a list of tips to return to when you find yourself comparing your business to others:

  • Unfollow accounts that trigger you

  • Follow accounts that inspire you (show the highs and lows)

  • Find your uniqueness and then you know that we are all different (this also helps you market yourself too)

  • Remember that we are all travelling through life on different paths and we all have different experiences we’ve been through

  • No one is you and you will stand out in that way

  • Your aligned audience will be attracted to you

At the end of the day, it is your business, no one else's. Focus more on telling your story and being confident in that and less on what others are doing. Stay in your lane!

Our journey to finding what we want to be known for

All this talk about finding what you want your business to be known for reminds me of my journey with Content Queen.

This time last year I went to lunch with an interesting entrepreneur, his brand was centred around blending comedy with illustration. This unique business idea sparked my brain and made me think, as a content marketing agency, what do I want to be known for teaching?

Ultimately my passions are in storytelling and helping businesses with their strategies. So, I wanted to find a way to blend these two things PLUS holistic content marketing, this has now created Content Queen as we know it today!

To Content Queen, content isn't about one thing on one platform, it's about an ecosystem of content that makes you unique and creates sustainability for your brand. We aren't about relying on a sole area in your business to get you results, it’s about all areas working cohesively to help you achieve your goals.

Creating a structure and business model takes time! You need to learn what works for you and what does not work for you and make changes along the way until you’re happy with the results.

However, get started by recognising your true core values and passions. For me, it was something I had always known however I needed to define it for myself rather than just trying to do everything all at once.

So, think about why you started your business in the first place, what are your values and how can you line that up with your teachings.

Here’s a story about never giving up

If you have your mind set on the type of business you want to own or the type of things you want to share with your audience online, this is the story you need to hear!

For me, this story speaks volumes. I know what it’s like to feel like you are stuck on one business path, I could have very easily ended up teaching Instagram for business or even just Reels. But to me, that wasn't a sustainable business and I wanted to do more.

I saw an example like this in a recent Netflix documentary about a Puerto Rican reggaeton singer (my partner is South American so I thought watching this would be a good chance for me to learn some Spanish)!

This singer went down the traditional path of his music career and unfortunately saw himself make a lot of mistakes on his journey.

Once he got back on track after a lot of missteps, he started to make music that wasn't traditional to the reggaeton genre but it was unique. With this, he got shut down a lot! He was told that it was good but not the reggaeton style. But he believed in it and kept pushing for it.

Now, he is classed as the one who changed the game for the reggaeton genre, bringing in slower songs! This inspired me so much!

If you feel like watching a new series, you can watch it on Netflix here!

This story is a fantastic reminder for us all to believe in ourselves and be confident in YOUR message!
