The Content We Love

Being a business that helps other businesses create the content they love, we rarely get a chance to express what our favourite type of content is. The world of online brands and entrepreneurs contains a mixture of different types of content creation which, if done right, should involve both contents that ‘works’ (the sort of stuff that gets engagement, interaction, and sales) and content you love to create.

This week on the podcast, I had my co-host Shannon (who is also a part of the Content Queen team) on to talk about our favourite mixture of content that we love to see.

Obviously working in the field that we do, there can be an overwhelming amount of content creation and marketing going on daily, that’s why we’ve summarised our favourites in 5 points (with a couple of honourable mentions). So, if you want to find out the type of stuff we LOVE to see businesses creating, have a read below!

1. Love letters in email marketing

Now when we talk about love letters in email marketing, it doesn't actually mean you’re writing to confess your love to someone (because that would be a bit weird to show our audience, right?). Love letters are more of a way to express your gratitude to your target audience while weaving on personal stories or messages.

In this type of marketing, there are so many types of emails you can use to connect with your email list, but they mostly fall under two categories: formal/educational or informal/fun. And whilst it’s good to have a mix of both, it seems that more often than not, businesses reach for the promotional type emails that are very formally structured. That’s why we love to see a break in that with the use of love letters!

There are so many things you can pack into love letters, it doesn't just have to be a ‘thank you’ to your target audience (however that is always well received). You can also do things like short updates on what’s going on in your business, storytelling, and even some target market research and asking what your audience wants to see from you (considering they are the ones absorbing your content)!

Keep these types of emails simple, easy to read and, of course, personal! They don’t need to be 1000 words or even 500, just short, sharp messages that can be worked into your current email schedule. Remember, even though you're in that business mindset, not everything has to be salesy!

2. Carousels on Instagram to explain information

Do you ever find yourself scrolling through Instagram and you come across a photo with a looooong caption that you really can’t be bothered reading, so you simply just scroll past it? Because I’m the exact same!

That is why I LOVE the carousel feature! It is such an effective way to both consume and market your content and big ideas, turning what would be loads of information into a much more palatable form.

Think of people scrolling and how exactly they scroll - usually the only thing that stops them from mindlessly trekking through IG is something that catches their eye. Carousels are so good at this because there is more to see than just the initial image - I always want to see the last image even if it isn't something that really interests me!

So when you’re marketing and creating your content for the week, have a think about where you can add in an IG carousel. Take your big ideas and break them up into bite-sized pieces, then you can always lead your audience somewhere else for more information.

Short captions and loads of info in the carousel are something we love to see!

3. Love podcasting - listening and recording

Podcasting has always been a big passion of mine and introducing Shannon to it, I’m so glad she feels the same way - it’s now one of her favourite things to do!

In the podcast, we talked a lot about how easily accessible it is for anyone and everyone, not just for those who love to chit-chat like us. Being able to sit down and talk about your focus for that week brings out so much more information than you would just be typing at a computer, especially if you’re having a guest or co-host to join you. You can bounce ideas off each other, gain multiple perspectives and even take away ideas you would never have thought of before!

To make sure you’re getting the most out of your podcasting, here are some quick tips to get you started!

  • Make notes on what you’d like to cover to ensure a nice flow of conversation. You can even let your co-host or guest add to these notes as well to get a broader perspective.

  • If you’re unsure about what to cover, have a look at your weekly themes and plan around that

  • Be authentic and have fun with it! There’s nothing better than listening to someone who is passionate about what they’re talking about, so stick to your notes but also don’t be afraid to expand and add in that personal touch as well!

4. Storytelling in content

We are all storytellers at Content Queen, it’s something we are all super passionate about - whether it is telling our own story or helping someone else do the same. But we also LOVE to read and hear about other people's journeys as well, because at the end of the day your story is always worth telling.

Think about the content you consume, more often than not it will contain a story that relates to whatever is going on in that business owner or creator's life. Take my health journey for example, the content I created around that part of my life alone was just one big story, yet it received the most amount of attention from my target audience and people were genuinely interested in what was going to happen next. This was me being very vulnerable, which can be intimidating for some, but it also shows that authentic side of you that you wouldn't get from simply educating or promoting all the time.

Remember that even your business, the whole reason you are where you are today, was built on a story. Maybe it was an idea, a thought, a journey of discovery or conversation, but it all stems from a story! So don’t shy away from sharing that, your audience is there because they love what you stand for and the way your business was built up - so share that journey because you never know what will resonate until you try it out.

5. Anything TikTok

If you’re anything like us, you absolutely LOVE TikTok! It’s definitely one of our favourite platforms to consume and there are many reasons for that, so, we thought we share them with you!

  1. Short-form entertainment seems to be the way of the future in terms of consuming content and TikTok is a perfect example of that. It allows quick and fun videos to be pushed out every day almost instantly, which is super efficient for busy entrepreneurs.

  2. Anyone who posts videos on TikTok can go viral for literally anything! You never know what’s going to ‘blow up’ and reach millions of people, so anyone has a chance to grow a huge following.

  3. Depending on what people search and interact with, depends on what shows up on their ‘For You’ page. So thanks to that algorithm, your content will end up in front of aligned people without much effort.

  4. It’s super fun and helps you stay on trend! TikTok is the type of place that drives other pop culture trends, so staying relevant is a whole lot easier. But don’t forget to also be unique and do your own thing as well - authenticity is still important.

Our honourable mentions

Here are a couple more things we LOVE to consume and see in content!

  • Anything astrological - at Content Queen we are all about purpose and being driven by energy, so to see more brands taking this on is amazing! For example, Content Queen is a Gemini, and Gemini’s are all about being surrounded and working with other people, so we think it’s perfect being in the business of helping others - how awesome is that!

  • Interactivity on Instagram Stories - this is one of our favourite ways to get engagement from target audiences! It’s super easy and simple, yet can be so effective if you're trying to build up that connectivity
