Does the word annoying hold you back from content creating?

What an interesting question I ask. But it is a thing you know! Do you not show up online or hold back on content creation because you are scared of being annoying?

It could be anything from showing up live to posting on your feed, whatever it is! Do you get worried people will tune out and think you are annoying?

Well I know I sure did when I first started. I always had that self-doubt and limiting belief that someone was always thinking I was annoying on social media and it seriously impacted how I was showing up!

So let’s break this all down and then I can share with you some solutions!

Listen below!

Listen below!

How did it impact me?

Personally, the doubt I had in myself when it comes to showing up online it came down to my childhood. I was bullied in primary and high school (like a lot of us sadly are), and I was constantly referred to as “annoying”.

The annoying friend who people got sick of, no stress don’t feel bad for me! So all of these subconscious thoughts have always played a big role in my life, even if I didn’t think it.

When it comes to starting and running my own business, this whole “annoying” concept really impacted how I was showing up online! I was struggling to do lives and post multiple stories a day on my social media because I was worried people will think I’m a pest and was being super annoying.

But I slowly realised, showing up online was the way to go and if I wanted to move the needle in my business, I had to be consistent and push through the belief that I was ‘annoying’.

So okay, how did I do this?! Of course, it is something you always have to work on (I know, what?!) It is a journey, not a destination!

How can you overcome it as I did!

Here is all the secret! And I am being honest with you. You have to do the work! This doesn’t happen overnight and you need to work on yourself to get past the limiting beliefs. The sooner you realise your personal life and your past impacts your business, the easier it will be to overcome this. It is like you have to do self-care to be a better entrepreneur. When I worked this out I was like “HUH?!” How does that work?

Okay here it goes, try these bad boys:

  • Picture your ideal client when you write. That’s right! When you are writing or producing and go to post. Take a minute to picture your ideal client! This won’t only help you creating content your audience needs, but it will help you get past the hesitation to post because you feel annoying. Your audience needs you.

  • Get people to help share their story as well. What do I mean by this? Have guests on your blogs and podcasts! It will help you because you not only have the accountability of someone else, but you have the support! When someone is helping you create content, you don’t feel alone and therefore, personally don’t feel annoying!  Of course, this is not a replacement, but a compliment.

  • Journal. My favourite thing to do. Journal about this. Work out why you feel annoying, nut out what people are saying to make you feel that and give yourself words of positivity! The more you journal about this, the better you will feel about your content! Make sure it is all positive words!

  • My new affirmation. You can use this affirmation if you like, it has really helped me! “I chose in delivering my message because it is my purpose to [add yours here]. Annoying is a positive word and has positive impacts on me”. Say this daily, clothes your eyes and continue to say it to yourself! Breathe into it and feel the power of the words! Affirmations also work if you are consistent with them.

  • A network of people. Right now this is restricted to online, but just like having a podcast or blog guest, also have a support network. These people will like and comment on your content and will help you push through the limiting beliefs. They are your number one fans!
You can network through groups, just talk to people and engage with them on a business friendship level rather than just talk to potential customers. Of course, please do not join pods! If you want to know why, or need more information on this, see here

  • Inner child work. Seems like a strange thing to add I know, BUT, like I said before, the personal life has an impact! You need to work out what happened in your childhood that makes you think you are too annoying to show up. It might not be having your friend straight up tell you “people think you’re annoying so we can’t be friends” BUT there will be something that is holding you back! Dig that up and use it as ammo to push pushed those limiting beliefs.

  • Meditate. Another powerful mindfulness technique that will help you become more self-aware AND help with all that self-love stuff is meditation. You can use applications like Insight Timer and choose meditations for self-love. The more you love yourself, the less annoying you will feel and the more you will show up!! It is a no brainer really!

  • Just write it (you don't have to post it). One I would do a lot in the beginning! Just write it, film it or record it and leave it! You don’t have to post. Come back after a while, look at it again and chances are you will end up being happy enough with it to post!

  • Have a strategy. Once you know the plan and you know when you will be showing up and what you will talk about, TRUST ME, you will feel way way way less annoying! A strategy is SO important for consistency, but it also helps you feel more prepared to show up!! Want more help with your strategy? I have a freebie that can help you with this!

  • Block or hide your content from those who impact you? Do you have friends who you love but make you feel annoying for showing up in your business? They mean well we get it but you can always hide them from seeing your stories or content! That way you don’t have to feel annoying when you post and they don’t feel like you don’t want to be friends with them.

What else you need to remember!

Okay so implement the above and let me know how you go! I would love to hear from you on my IG account, you can see how much I don’t care about being annoying on there!

But let me share some other things with you that I want you to remember….

  • Annoying in a label you give yourself

This is something YOU think about yourself! And whoever directly says it to you, that is their opinion. It doesn’t mean everyone thinks this. So if you don’t think it, you can push past the fear of showing up online and serve the people who need YOU!! Remember not everyone will resonate with you and that is okay!

  • Don't use the word anymore

If you find it negatively impacts you, don’t say it at all! Don’t even think about it! Annoying is a word we put negative context to! So if you don’t think about it or don’t use the word, you won’t believe you are in fact being annoying. It is like the term “I can’t afford it”, if you rephrase to “It is not a money priority”, the meaning of the sentence totally changes! Do this and see how it works!

  • Don't apologise

NEVER apologise for showing up. Never say “sorry for being annoying”. Do not apologise, do not feel bad! You are here to serve! So, serve without apology. You do you boo!! This is one I am always trying to work on! The “feeling bad” thing!
