Finding more freedom in your business

The words success and freedom are very popular and of course something we all strive for. But you know what, sometimes we don’t really know what that looks like, or how we obtain both!

Well, in this article and in my recent podcast episode, I spoke to Kris Ward, founder of Win the Hour Win the Day (a philosophy), which is aimed to help entrepreneurs build their team so they can start building a successful business and get freedom back!

Now, of course, you can imagine I am all for outsourcing and building a team, but this does also seem like a scary concept when it comes to my own business, but it definitely has helped the businesses I have done work for in the past.

So let’s explore building a team!

Why do I need to outsource

As Kris mentioned, building your team is what can help your business thrive and not just survive. She experienced this in her own business and stresses that it doesn’t have to be an expensive exercise if you have the right formulas in place.

Outsourcing tasks in your business allows you the time to focus on the things that light you up, keep you passionate and also make you more money. That is where the success comes in, plus an outsourcer can help bring in new and fresh ideas you might not have thought about in the past.

Once you have someone in your team helping you with certain tasks, you will feel the freedom come to you! Kris mentions this a lot, entrepreneurship doesn’t have to be this slug for the rest of your life. And you don’t have to be a veteran to start hiring. All you need is the right strategy and the right frame of mind and you can start building a team that works for you!

What does success look like in business?

What an interesting question and of course, success looks different for everyone. But success is something you label in your business. Maybe it is more time to do the things you love, maybe it is more revenue. Either way, defining what success means for you will, of course, mean you need more people within your business to help you execute. Have a think about what success means to you and who you need by your side to help you get to where you need to be. This will help you determine what type of outsourcing you need and will help you push along to finding the right person.

What are the tips for outsourcing

Kris has a range of amazing tips, some she shares on the podcast and others she will be sharing soon in her new product, but some of the things you want to think about when hiring include: Who do you need? Don’t hire a VA and then give that VA 1000 tasks that might not be suited to their role AND you are overloading and then wonder why nothing gets done Hire on personality, you can teach skillset later, but hire someone passionate about being in your team Don’t have an extensive job ad or criteria, it actually hinders you from finding who you need!

Once you know who you need and the person you are looking for, it makes finding them a lot less daunting and of course, the workflow will evolve as you work alongside them. As Kris said, you don’t have to be hung up in detail straight away, take baby steps and get your new team member to help you work on the process. This will also help when you scale and hire more people!

My experience with outsourcing

As you may know, I have been the outsourcer a lot. But only when I started my own business did I understand the feeling of outsourcing, and it isn’t easy! It can be scary and daunting, but after talking with Kris, I know with the right strategy I don’t have to feel like this.

I did have a coach not that long ago tell me to write down the following (based on my thoughts, not anyone else). What does success look like? Once I wrote that down I was then to write:

  • What do I love doing (what lights me up)

  • What do I hate doing

Both of these in and out of my business!

This gave me SO much clarity of what freedom looked like for me AND what I could outsource down the track and NOW! Guess what? I’ve hired my first VA and I am beyond excited!
