Each week, you'll be given a new stamp on your passport. And by the end of the 90 days, you will be able to explore your own new world of content marketing as a solo traveler, seatbelts on we're ready to take off. Hello gang. Oh my gosh. I'm excited for this new series of the podcast. It's all about around the world in 90 days your ticket to good content marketing.
So as I said, as the pilot of this flight, we are currently traveling at 30, 000 feet. And we're ready to have a good time. Oh my gosh. I've had so much fun creating this new campaign. I'm going to explain it all to you in this episode. So you are ready for good content marketing in 2024. But before I get into this, I really want to share my own experience with content marketing and how it's and, and, and my business and how it's not always been super aligned and maybe you will resonate with this story.
So my purpose was to travel. I started my business in 2019 with the purpose to turn it into my full time business and travel because really it, it dates back to 2017 when I was traveling a lot, I had my full time job, but it wasn't really funding me how I wanted it to with the rent and Melbourne and the party lifestyle I was living.
So I did start, um. Creating content for people on Fifer. I was doing blogs and press releases and all sorts of things, and it kind of got to the end of 2018 and I was sort of contemplating some other business ideas that had come to me, but they definitely weren't aligned and, um. A guy at work said to me, Mariah, you write every day.
Why don't you just write for more people? So I started taking FIFA more seriously and created Content Queen. That's a whole other story, but really that is why I started it in 2019. It was my side hustle. I told my boss I'd started a side hustle. I was heading to Europe and in Europe I sort of did a little bit of digital nomading.
I had a couple of. Smaller clients and I was doing bits of content whilst I was away. So just get an experience on what it would be like. And I was obsessed and hooked and that's all I wanted to do to the point where when I come back from my holiday, it was sort of the end of the year. And then as we're coming into the new year, we have our KPI sessions with our boss.
And I said, I'm going to leave the business in May. And he's like, you've told me pretty early. I was like. It's all about intention setting. So I set that intention and that's what I was going to do. But of course COVID happened and it didn't really go to plan. Um, although it did in some respect, I did move to Sydney and start my digital nomad life just in Australia still.
But what really shook me was my health crisis in 2021, where I was diagnosed with two tumors and, uh, neuroendocrine cancer. I had a huge surgery called a Whipple's. Um, I've talked about it. extensively in my content over the years because it's a big part of my journey and I remember that moment of, you know, obviously being in, in hospital and thinking like, is this ever going to happen?
Like, am I ever going to actually travel? So that gives you a bit of a new lease on life. Well, it should, when you go through quite a life changing thing and you're not guaranteed your life at some point, although we. Technically all aren't at any stage. Um, but you really have this sort of face with death and you Yeah, you have a new experience that makes you want to really fulfill your dreams.
So that's what I was going to do, except it didn't go to plan that way. For some reason, as I come out of hospital, I got really excited by some new opportunities in my business, some new clients, but it sent me on a bit of an identity crisis because before I got sick, I was a party goer, drank a lot. Um, go, go, go energy.
Now, obviously when I got sick, I realized the importance of slowing down and being a bit more of my feminine. So, I was in this crisis. I wasn't drinking anymore. I wasn't party girl Mariah. I, there was a lot of things I didn't see myself as anymore and I found myself working a lot. And with that come a few other health complications because I burnt myself out again.
Um, but it was hard because I, I wasn't really working towards the things that I really wanted. I was creating things here, creating things there, taking on too much work, not being intentional and also not measuring quote unquote success in my business in terms of the content and the marketing. So I wasn't really marketing myself in a way that was aligned to where I wanted to be.
And I wasn't measuring what was working in my business, all the things I teach now, I wasn't necessarily doing. And I felt things weren't as intentional. And even before this and before I sort of had some kind of content strategy, cause I did have a content strategy at this point. Before that I was doing all the things on all the different channels, but I did find myself going down that space of hamster wheel, not getting off.
Very yeah, go, go energy. And it was a bit of an identity crisis. So that was sort of the beginning of the turnaround for me, um, 2021 mid to end 2021. And I'm going to share more about that story at the end. So stick around because you want to hear how it panned out and you might know bits already, but I wasn't doing the things that I tell people to do now because I was in the same position as you are now, sort of on that hamster wheel, creating lots of content or not creating content at all because it's overwhelming.
All of these things that come out, which I will talk about and then. Yeah. Getting to the end of the day and being like, Oh my God, I hadn't done what I wanted to do, or I'm not where I want to be in business and I'm not where I want to be in life and that's what happened to me. I definitely wasn't where I wanted to be.
So when you remember why you started your business, then you can create this plan to move forward. And that was sort of what happened with me. And again, I will share what happened to me at the end, towards the end of the episode. So stay tuned. So what I want to share with you is the three reasons around this new campaign that I've started, which is called around the world in 90 days, your ticket to good content marketing.
And I want to explain how it's going to go down, what you can expect and everything. So this is going to be really, really fun and really exciting. And I absolutely can't wait. So the first thing that the insights that I've gotten from my own personal experience and from talking to a lot of business owners is that we're working a lot.
Uh, we started our businesses, a lot of us to Um, to build a passion, to work within our values, to work for ourselves, but also to live a bit more of a free lifestyle, support our family, our loved ones, um, and have the flexibility that's given to us when we have our own business. But I found this interesting article and I'll link it in the show notes from Gallop.
And on average, Small business owners work 52 hours a week, and the article is called work is a labor of love, and that's obviously what happens, right? And in this article, it talks about data, um, given from some research done, and 57 percent of small business owners say they work six or more days each week.
And this is a reality. And obviously I'm not going to sit here and say, when you first start business, you should go straight into those hours that are just minimal because often that is difficult. But I also know that. It's possible to still create a free lifestyle and shift things in our business to make it possible.
And that's what I want to share in this campaign that we're going to be running. So we start this nine to five to live a more free lifestyle. And then we find ourselves working more hours and it's a reality and it's, it's hard. And this is where burnout is very prevalent at the moment and all sorts of things.
Not an expert in that, but you can see. How it's totally possible that we go from working a nine to five to working even more than 52 hours per week. So this leads into, I guess, why this is relevant with content marketing. I've done a lot of research, a lot of polls, market research, talking with my audience.
And the number one thing that I have learned is the time it takes to create content is the number one pain point. It takes too long. I hear this. So many times even to the point where when I'm teaching things and I share about conversion and connection Everyone wants that of course, but the number one thing is always time always time Because of course content marketing isn't the only channel that we can build connection and conversion But it is the chat.
It is the type of marketing that does take the longest It does take the longest amount of time for creation, all of that. Not necessarily for results, but often yes for results, but it just takes too long. So if you can put your hand up right now, because you're in that boat, then this campaign is going to be absolutely perfect.
I am not the person that's going to sit here and tell you. That I can help you create One month's worth of content in one hour because it is not possible But I can teach you the strategies that you can put in place to make content creation a lot easier for you So that then you can build more space into your business, into your day, into your life.
Because what you need to remember is at Content Queen, we're a content marketing agency. So, not only am I creating content for myself and my business because I did, at the start of the year, stop outsourcing that. Not for a reason of money or it not being a good idea. It was more because I needed to downsize my team at that time for travel.
Um, but I also create content for multiple other businesses. Like, so this, and I travel right full time. I, of course there's days I work a lot, but it has allowed me having some kind of plan and strategy to have the time to travel and all of these things. Also, some of the other things that have come up is.
Never having any ideas, struggling to be consistent, no execution or organization, being chained to the laptop, all these things. So again, if you see it in any of these pain points, this campaign and this 90 days is really going to help you a lot. It comes down to strategy and it comes down to understanding content marketing for your business and not a broad, you Instagram.
Because that's not a strategy. So these pain points have really shown me then, okay, what's the solution? And as I've mentioned, it's strategy. It's having a plan and a strategy for your business. Now, we don't all need to know the perfect strategy right now, but we need to know the elements that go into a good strategy that can help us create and execute.
And along this 90 day journey, there's going to be an amazing event online that everyone can attend and learn these elements. And there is going to be a program that we have that is going to be able to help you with that. But right now we're focusing on the content. We're focusing on the information that you need.
Now, the third point that I want to take you through is this concept of having a strategy. Because according to the Content Marketing Institute, 73 percent of Business to business marketers and 70 percent of business to consumer marketers use content marketing as part of their overall marketing strategy.
So that's quite high, right? But 33 percent who have a strategy don't have it documented and 27 percent have no strategy whatsoever. This is stats on marketers. Imagine entrepreneurs and small businesses like yourself.
Marketers are using content marketing in their overall marketing strategy, but they don't have a documented plan or a strategy at all with the content marketing.
Then you can see where there's a gap. You could see where there's things missing, right? So I imagine you as a small business owner, as an entrepreneur, trying to navigate this world. It's not easy and it's time consuming. And then this is where this hamster wheel starts and we can't get off because we don't have a plan.
We don't have a strategy. And we're just sort of clutching at straws trying to get content up because we know that we should. But it doesn't mean that the content is resonating with our audience, and it could be stuff that's taking us a long time. So it might not actually be working, which is hard. So, that's why I created this campaign for multiple reasons.
The first one being that content is taking us too much time and some people still don't seem to have a strategy, even though I talk about it all the time. Maybe you don't think you're at the right stage in your business. Maybe you don't, you think you don't have time. There's all these reasons why people don't create a content marketing strategy.
But then there's this element of, well, content's taking me a lot of time and energy, and I'm not living the life that I want to live. So then I see this correlation of like, okay, people are taking too much time creating content. People are on this hamster wheel and people are also not living the life that they chose to live when they started their business.
So what's missing here? It's the plan and the strategy. Now I'm not saying that this is going to be the ticket to all the time in the world, but this is where it starts. So then also learning content marketing in your own way through this series will help you be able to make educated decisions on what content marketing will look like for you in 2024.
So you don't have to do all the things and you can be very intentional and aligned with what works for you. And what might work for you as well. So that's what's going to be super exciting and I'm going to tell you a little bit about what it's going to look like in a second. Because, you know, you want to know what, what's going to happen and, and how's it, how's it going to unfold and be delivered to you, which I'm very excited about.
But the last point I wanted to touch on is the reason why I chose this sort of travel element is because I started my business to travel. The content strategy has helped me travel because it's helped me be intentional. It's helped me be organized, consistent, and also this travel element is maybe something that you want in your business too.
So. And it's also really, um, aligned and works well because I come up with the idea when I was in Morocco and I'm executing the idea while we're in Colombia and South America for five months. So it just all works really beautifully because I can show you how it unfolds whilst I'm traveling, um, whereas at the moment I'm home.
So, um, I'm very excited. But before I share a little bit about what that's going to look like, I want to connect you back to the story that I told you at the start, how I had my identity crisis. I wasn't traveling. COVID was keeping us locked down. I had a health crisis that just sent me into an absolute spiral of then deciding that my business needed to grow exponentially and I needed to work harder after just knowing that life is too short and I needed some I connected with my coach, Leticia Andrak, who has been on the show before, is an amazing supporter of Content Queen and is my mentor, and she helped me connect back to my vision and what I wanted in my business.
So if you don't know that, before you jump into this series. Think about what that vision looks like there's amazing mentors that can also help you with that. I can pop Leticia's Details in the show notes and also she has an abundant vision coming up. So good timing, right? So connecting back to your vision is the first thing and then looking at okay Well content marketing is what's taking me the most time.
It's what I focus my most energy on I've now become this business owner turned content creator Then we go through the strategy and that's what happened to me. I remembered why I started my business. So then I put a business strategy in place, but then also made sure that my content marketing, my marketing strategy, which was taking me the most time because also I was doing it for my clients, was put into place so that I could continue to support my business and my clients at the same time.
Then I started to make a plan on how I could start traveling. And there were business decisions I had to make as well, not just content marketing decisions. And that's why, you know, doing this journey in alignment with your vision is really important. So I'll put some resources in the show notes if you need to go back to the vision.
Or if you know it, then let's save you some time with your content marketing. Because as I said, I understand it's the thing that seems to take us the most time. And then we become so engulfed in this content creation journey that we forget. That we have a business and you know, all the other things that go on it because it is the thing that, because it's the most creative, it is the most exciting.
I love it. I know a lot of people love it and I know the people that don't love it want to learn to love it or know that it's important to their business.
