How to create a multi-channel content strategy
Be seen in more places. Create your ecosystem of content marketing. The holistic approach that allows you to be in “all the places” while only doing half of the work. Sounds like a dream, right? As any business online, there is an endless possibility of what can be done to promote your business.
But, building a multi channel content strategy is a great place to start. To ensure you have coverage. To ensure you are being seen and your marketing becomes like a well-oiled machine.
Within this article, we will cover how you can build a multi-channel content strategy whether you are starting out, or have been marketing your business for years.
Define the channels
The first step is to define the channels. What channels are going to work for you and your business? Here is what we suggest:
Define the MAIN channel you would like to show up on (you can take our quiz to find out what that looks like for you)
Define the channels your audience hangs out on (you can do a simple demographic search to find this out)
The main thing is to first define the main channel you will show up on. We recommend a long-form channel, but if you choose social media, no worries. You can create longer form content on those channels to repurpose out.
Start with 1-3 channels
We recommend you start out with 1-3 channels and build from there. This could look like:
Core channel: long-form channel as mentioned above (podcast, blog, video channel)
Secondary channel: you could choose 1-2 social media channels or x1 social media and Pinterest)
Email marketing: you want to try and prioritise this as well: contact your mailing list weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly
Define the frequency
Next when creating a multi-channel content strategy is working out the frequency. How often do you want to show up on each channel?
You might do this:
Weekly or bi-weekly long-form posts on the core channel
Daily or every second day on a secondary platform (weekly or bi-weekly if a long-form channel)
Monthly, bi-weekly or weekly emails
Repurpose to multiple channels
Once you define the frequency of the core channel and that “long form” post you can use the content created in those to repurpose the content already created in-directly.
Break up that long-form post into mini-educational posts. Create posts linking back to this piece or just share experiences related to this topic.
MAKE sure that the main “core” channel piece of content is used as much as possible.
E.g
x1 blog on: how to create a multi-channel content strategy…
x3-4 social media posts: x1 guide on this topic, x1 story of our experience, x1 educational video
x3-4 Pinterest pins: linking to the blog
x1 email: summarising the blog and giving extra tips
What do to share in the long-form post?
Your long-form post should be VALUE added. Give tips, advice, and help to your audience around your industry. Share something that can be used in their life, business, or whatever your niche helps with!
Build, grow, expand
Once you build this strategy up, you can start to add more channels into your ecosystem. Start with 1-3 and then grow.
That blog can become a podcast. That Instagram post can be used on LinkedIn or Facebook. The Reel can be used on TikTok. Start small and grow each time you review your content strategy.
Final thoughts
To create a multi-channel content strategy all you need to do is:
Start with ONE core channel
Build a main piece of content on it weekly or bi-weekly
Repurpose this core concept to 1-2 supporting channels
Prioritise the email list
Review and grow
